Tools and the Co-writer dock

Press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows to open Tools: every writing, structure, reference and Co-writer action in one place.

Tools is the one place for everything you can do to the page: format a line, add a scene, jump to a chapter, link a character, or ask Co-writer for something specific.

Open Tools

  • Press ⌘ K on a Mac, or Ctrl K on Windows.
  • Or choose Tools at the foot of Story or Script.

Tools opens with the current scene or chapter, and anything you have selected, already attached.

Find a tool

Type to filter every category; tools whose names start with what you type come first. Use ↑ ↓ to move, Enter to run a tool, and Esc to close. Some tools open in place, such as Go to scene, which lists your scenes; Back to tools returns to the list.

If nothing matches, Tools offers to ask Co-writer instead, with your words moved into the request, unsent.

Editor tools and Co-writer tools

  • Editor tools, such as Dialogue or New scene, act on the page straight away and use the editor’s undo history.
  • Co-writer tools prepare a request in the composer. You can edit it first. Nothing is sent, and no credit is used, until you choose Send.

Co-writer’s changes to your writing always arrive as proposals: Accept, Try again, Dismiss or Compare. See Accepting or rejecting changes.

The conversation

Replies grow upwards from the dock and fold back into the composer when you are done. Choose Continue in sidebar to carry on the conversation beside the page. Your caret, selection and scroll position are kept when the dock opens and closes.
