Acts and scenes

A screenplay is made of scenes, and you can group scenes into acts. Add acts from the outline and see every scene in the sidebar.

Scenes

Every Scene Heading begins a scene. Scriptr lists your scenes, numbered in order, in the sidebar under the project and in the outline (Manuscript options › Open outline). Select a scene to jump to it.

To add a scene, choose New Scene from the / menu, or add one from the outline.

Acts

Acts are optional. A screenplay can have no acts, or as many as you need.

  • To add an act, select New Act at the bottom of the outline. New acts are named Act I, Act II and so on.
  • Scenes are grouped under their act in the outline. To put a scene in a different act, drag it there, or use Move to in the scene’s ⋯ menu.

Acts organise the outline. They do not print on your screenplay pages or appear in exported files.

Good to know

Renaming, reordering and removing acts are not available in the outline yet.
