Chapters
Chapters divide a Story. Start one with New Chapter, rename and reorder chapters from the outline, and move between them from the sidebar.
Start a chapter
Type / and choose New Chapter. Scriptr adds a chapter title where your cursor is. Type the chapter’s name on that line.
See all your chapters
- The sidebar lists a Story’s chapters under the project.
- Manuscript options › Open outline shows the chapter outline beside your writing. Select a chapter to jump to it.
Rename or reorder chapters
- To rename a chapter, edit its title in the text.
- To reorder, drag a chapter by its handle in the outline. You can also press ⌘ ⌥ ↑ or ↓ (Ctrl Alt on Windows) to move the chapter your cursor is in.
Moving a chapter moves all of its text. You can undo a move like any other edit.
Parts
If your Story uses Parts (set in Manuscript options › Structure), chapters are grouped into parts, and you can move a chapter to another part from its menu in the outline.
Good to know
Chapters are kept when you export: Story PDFs start each chapter on a new page, and Markdown exports keep chapter titles as headings.
