Writing in Story
Story is where you write prose: a treatment, an outline, a novel or notes on the world. Type, and use / for chapters, headings and other blocks.
Story is the prose space of a project. Open it from Project Home or the sidebar. A project’s Story is created the first time you open it.
Write
Start typing. Scriptr saves as you write: see Recovering recent writing and how autosave works.
Type / at the start of a line, or after a space, to open the insertion menu:
- Paragraph, Heading, Quote and Scene Break for the shape of the text.
- New Chapter to begin a chapter. See Chapters.
- New Character and New Place to create a profile, and Mention Character and Mention Place to refer to one.
- Ask Co-writer and Continue Writing to bring Co-writer in. Anything Co-writer writes waits for your approval.
Change how the page looks
Open Manuscript options in the top bar:
- Writing style: Editorial (Tiempos Text) or Clean (Geist).
- Measure: Narrow, Normal or Wide line length.
- Structure: No structure or Parts.
These change only how your page is presented, not the words. Your default typography for Story is in Settings › Appearance.
Good to know
- Story and Script are separate manuscripts in the same project. Writing in one does not change the other. See Story vs Script.
- Bold and italic are kept when you export Story to PDF or Markdown.
