Writing a prompt and adding references

Describe the shot plainly, then add the characters, places and images it should draw on.

A good direction reads like a line from a shot list. Say what the camera sees, in the order it sees it.

Write the direction

  • Who and where: Dalia at the window of her flat, rain on the glass.
  • What happens: She turns as the door opens behind her.
  • The camera: Slow push in, eye level, shallow focus.
  • The feeling: Quiet, held breath.

Keep one shot to one idea. If you find yourself writing then, it is probably two shots.

Add references

Choose + in the composer, or type @ in the prompt. You can search:

  • Characters and Places in the project;
  • Scenes;
  • Production media: earlier takes and images;
  • Whiteboard images;
  • your device: upload an image.

Use only images you own or have permission to use.

Characters and places bring their looks

When you add a character, Scriptr uses their primary look. If they don’t have one yet, it says so and uses their written description instead. You can choose Create their look first, or continue with the description. Places work the same way. See Images for character and place looks.

When a reference doesn’t suit the model

Not every model accepts every kind of reference. If a reference won’t work with the chosen model, Scriptr says so and offers fixes, such as switching model, using a frame from a clip instead, or removing the reference.
