Automatic checkpoints and safety snapshots
While you write, Scriptr keeps a checkpoint about every 15 minutes, and a safety snapshot before anything risky.
You don’t need to remember to save versions. Scriptr records automatic history as you work.
Automatic checkpoints
While you are writing and your work is saving, Scriptr keeps an Automatic checkpoint at most every 15 minutes. If you stop writing, no checkpoints are added, so history stays readable.
Safety snapshots
Before anything that changes a lot at once, Scriptr saves a copy first:
| Entry | When it is saved |
|---|---|
| History started | The first entry for a manuscript. |
| Before restore | Just before a version is restored. |
| Before import | Just before imported writing replaces or joins the manuscript. |
| Safety snapshot | Before maintenance that touches the manuscript. |
| Branch point | When an alternate draft is created from this draft. |
| Recovered conflict copy | When two saves collided and Scriptr kept your local work separately. |
Each entry is a complete, unchangeable copy of the manuscript at that moment.
Using them
Automatic entries behave like named versions: preview them, and restore any of them. See Restoring a version.
