Saving and changing a character voice

Choose one voice for a character, change it later, or undo a change straight away.

A character’s voice is part of their profile, like their name and looks. There is one voice per character, and every part of the project uses it.

Choose the voice

In Voice Studio, choose Use for and the character’s name on the voice you want. The voice is outlined and labelled with the character’s name, for example Benjamin’s voice, and the character’s identity card updates.

A confirmation says that previews in Script and Production will use this voice. It includes Undo.

Undo

Undo returns the character to the voice they had before, or to no voice if they had none. If the earlier voice is no longer in the library, Scriptr says it can’t restore it.

See it on the profile

The character’s Voice section shows:

  • the voice’s name, where it came from (the library, or created from a direction) and its qualities;
  • a sample, with the line it performs;
  • Open Voice Studio and Change voice;
  • the takes you have kept, each with its scene.

Change the voice

Choose Change voice on the profile, or open Voice Studio and choose Use for on a different voice. The new voice applies everywhere in the project from then on.

Keep, rename and archive takes

A take is one performance of one line. Open a take’s menu to Rename, Archive or Remove take.

  • Keeping or removing a take never changes the character’s voice.
  • Choosing a voice never selects a take.
  • Removing a take deletes its audio.

Who can change it

Anyone with edit access to the project, on Writer or Director, can choose or change a character’s voice. People with view access can listen but not change it.
