Import failed
If an import fails, check the file type, the size limit and whether the type matches Script or Story, then try pasting the text.
Check the message
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| That file is larger than the 2 MB import limit | Split the file, or remove images and attachments if it is not plain text. |
| No structure found | Scriptr could not find scenes or chapters. For a Script, check that scene headings start with INT. or EXT.. For a Story, start chapters with a # heading in Markdown. |
| Script or Story cannot be selected | Fountain files can only become a Script, and Markdown files only a Story. |
| The file cannot be chosen | Only .fountain, .spmd, .txt, .md and .markdown files are supported. |
Other things to try
- Open the file in a text editor and paste the text into the import box instead.
- If your screenplay is in Final Draft, export it from Final Draft as Fountain and import that.
- If the preview looks wrong, cancel. Nothing is created until you select Import as Script or Import as Story.
If it still fails, contact support and attach the file, if you are comfortable sharing it.
